So, using the VSync feature is not suitable for competitive games because it will affect your performance.
When Should You Use VSync?
When the frame rate produced by the graphics card cannot be displayed by the monitor because the number of FPS is bigger than the refresh rate, screen tearing will occur. For example, you want 100fps to be displayed on a 60Hz monitor. The monitor will have a hard time working on par with the graphics card’s capabilities. On your monitor, you will see a horizontal line appearing, making the graphics display look split.

The Disadvantages of VSync
Though the VSync feature can be useful to reduce screen tearing, it is far away from the term perfect solution. If your monitor and game you play are having hard problems with frame synchronization, then VSync can lower the frame rate until it reaches a suitable point for synchronization. This process can cause input lag and added stutter, which will surely worsen your gaming experience.
Moreover, since the performance of the graphics card is pressed to match the refresh rate, some gamers may not be satisfied with the quality of the graphics presented. Another bad effect is that the graphics card you have is not running at maximum performance even though the graphics quality is set to the Ultra level. So, gamers are expected to be wiser when using the V-Sync feature, especially having a graphic quality level as another way to avoid screen tearing.
Screen tearing is the most visible problem on fast-paced games. But it is also possible to play games with other genres. If you mostly play competitive, fast-paced games, turning on VSync is probably a bad idea. Several games have triple buffering settings that can overcome problems on VSync. Still, this is not necessarily the solution for VSync.
VSync VS GSync VS FreeSync
NVIDIA developed GSync and AMD developed FreeSync in order to cover up the weaknesses of VSync. Both are the technologies used to synchronize the screen’s refresh rate directly to the GPU’s frame rate, resulting in clear, tear-free, crisp screen input without the problems found on VSync. It can be concluded that both of the technologies are their original VSync software, but better than VSync itself. If this option is available on your game, you can try using it.
So, whether it is important or not to turn VSync on for your game, depends on the compatibility of your monitor and GPU. Most monitors only support one, whether it is VSync, GSync, or FreeSync.
